![]() With Find My, you can always locate your Mac, and Apple has improved this to ensure that if your Mac gets stolen, you can find its location even if its turned off! According to Apple, your MacBook will now act as a low energy Bluetooth beacon, constantly sending out small packets of information to nearby Apple devices, and these devices will act like a mesh network of sorts to relay the location of your MacBook back to you, making it easier to find a lost or stolen laptop. Screen Time is turned off default, but you can enable Screen Time on Mac pretty easily, and get started with tracking your Mac usage.įind My is a new app that brings both Find My Mac, and Find My Friends into one single place. It’s a pretty handy tool to get a bird’s eye view of your Mac usage, and control it if needed. You can set app timers to ensure you don’t spend too much time on distracting apps, and you can use Downtime to ensure you catch up on your sleep. Also, if you’re wondering how you’ll sync your iPhone and iPad now that iTunes is dead, well, you’ll now see those devices connected to your Mac in the Finder, and you can sync, update, restore, and backup your devices with just as much ease as with iTunes.Īpple has also brought over Screen Time from iOS to macOS Catalina, so you can monitor your Mac usage with ease, and even make use of all the Screen Time features that are available on iOS. ![]() With macOS Catalina, you’ll get three apps called ‘Music’, ‘Podcasts’, and ‘Apple TV’ all of which are pretty self-explanatory as to what they’ll do. So, iTunes has been split into three separate apps, all of which focus on a particular use-case instead of trying to be a one-stop solution for too many problems. Certainly an improvement over Mojave in my opinion.Apple finally realised that the company was making iTunes do too many things and it was quickly becoming a cluttered mess of a software. Much the same as the one on mobile devices though much more detailed to reflect computer use instead. I don’t know if you could do this with the original app, since I deleted it immediately after it was installed on my system, but this certainly makes things easier and makes me actually want to use the app. I discovered with the new one that you can search by topic or keyword. ![]() In fact, I hated it and wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. I have to say I was never a fan of the original News app. It also makes it easier to use the “Find My”, whis is also now a native macOS app, to find any device linked to your Apple ID. Now it resembles the one used on the iPhone and other mobile devices. I used to find it clunky and unappealing to use. (I’m going to go out on a limb as say that Apple did this to get this exact reaction from its user base, not that I mind) I have started to migrate my podcasts from Spotify over to the Podcast app. Not only did I find it now located in my dock when I started my macBook up after the installation but it was more user-friendly. I’m curious as to why it was included with the new macOS update since netflix is a thing? To me it looks like the Apple version of Netflix, just requiring you to pay more and rent things. ![]() When it finally did open it actually looked pretty good. Apple TV App is now a native app on MacĪdmittedly mine didn’t work the first time I launched it.
